TLP Spotlight: Working in [Maine] style
Matthew Warner could go a year without washing his shirts and never wear the same outfit twice.
Call it fashion, call it passion; it’s a lifestyle he shares through his Instagram account, @modernmainer, where he lays out and stylistically photographs his daily outfits, from slim jeans and sweaters to shorts and colorful T-shirts. He has amassed a following of more than 5,600.
He’s come a long way from the shy high school student growing up in the small town of Winthrop where his graduating class had just 60 people.
Hoping to break out of that small-town environment and find himself, he chose to attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he earned his degree in consumer, apparel and retail studies with a minor in business.
Moving back to Maine after college, he worked for the boutique clothing chain francesca’s as the store manager for five years before joining Trueline, where he serves as a content coordinator.
Today, he continues to share his unique style through Instagram, showing off his large collection of watches, sunglasses and leather and suede shoes, and his love for bright colors and prints—as well as the enduring simplicity of a white t-shirt and jeans.
“I don’t follow trends, I kind of create my own. I want things that will last a lifetime and never go out of style,” he says.

Otherwise, he describes himself as “crunchy,” a lover of the outdoors, and passionate about his home state.
“Going away made me really appreciate what Maine has to offer,” he says. “I’ll probably be here the rest of my life.”
