Park Square at Seven Oaks – Tech-Forward Multifamily Living
Bakersfield’s newest luxury development, Park Square at Seven Oaks, brings 224 units across 16 two-story buildings to the market. Built by Wallace & Smith General Contractors for Fuller Apartment Homes, the project prioritizes privacy through its low-density layout while packing in a full suite of shared amenities.
Residents get a green belt with walking and bike paths, a clubhouse, an outdoor bar, and a fire pit. But the real draw is under the hood.
Tech-First Infrastructure
Fiber to Every Unit
Fuller wanted the fastest internet speeds available, so Wallace & Smith ran fiber optic cable to each individual apartment. That’s rare in Bakersfield.
“It’s really different from any other projects here in the city because very few developments have those types of speeds to each unit. There’s obviously an additional cost, but it’s one of the big selling points for the tenants.”
— Lance Randolph, Project Manager, Wallace & Smith
Keyless Entry
A single key fob handles access to apartments, community buildings, and amenities. Management can restrict after-hours access to the pool or fitness center.
European-Style HVAC
Every bedroom and common room gets a Fujitsu Multi-Zone Heating and Cooling unit. The system runs quieter than central air, requires no ductwork, and lets residents heat or cool individual rooms rather than the whole apartment.
“You don’t have to run any duct work; you can just turn on a portion of the system and instead of heating or cooling the entire apartment you can just do one area.”
— Lance Randolph
Amenities and Lifestyle
Beyond the tech, Park Square offers a fitness center, conference area, pool with double gas grills, outdoor lounge seating, a hot tub, covered carport parking, and on-site maintenance. Weekly events — barbecue nights, game nights, happy hours — are part of the package. Bars, restaurants, and cultural attractions are within walking distance.
Building the Project
Timeline
Construction started in late 2013 and wrapped up by the first quarter of 2015.
The Contractor’s Approach
Wallace & Smith, founded in 1950, has experience across industrial, aerospace, medical, and oil field projects. For Park Square, they limited subcontractor bids to firms with multifamily experience. When the project ramped up, Wallace & Smith ask the help of recruiters experienced in construction in California to round out their crews with the experienced tradespeople the job demanded.
“With the kind of money involved here you can’t afford to hire someone who doesn’t have experience on that type of project.”
— Lance Randolph
Randolph calls concrete slab pours the most schedule-critical scope. The concrete contractor had 15 to 17 slabs to pour, and any delay would ripple through every trade after.
Beyond This Project
Wallace & Smith has also recently completed an affordable housing development for agricultural field workers about 45 minutes north of Bakersfield, along with several other marquee projects across California and surrounding states.
The Takeaway
Park Square at Seven Oaks positions itself as a tech-forward home for the digitally literate renter. Fiber to every unit, keyless entry, and zoned European HVAC set it apart from competing multifamily developments in Bakersfield and deliver on the promise of a luxury, future-ready living experience.
