With its annual fundraising campaign underway, United Way of Greater Portland is turning to small businesses to help reach its goal of $7.6 million.

UWGP invests resources in fundamental issues such as education, financial stability and health to build a brighter future for children, individuals and families.

The Campaign Cabinet works with United Way Resource Development staff to generate support for the 2015 campaign from companies and organizations across Cumberland County. With a new initiative underway – the 365 Small Business Circle – UWGP representatives have rallied area businesses to join the fundraising effort.

UWGP stopped by the TrueLine Publishing office last week to talk about the annual campaign and what it means to the community.

“Places that support their community are better places to work,” said Lily Hanstein, Loaned Executive with UWGP. “When you donate to United Way you can be sure that your contribution is going to a solution that makes sense driven by the insight of industry experts.”

TLP employees stepped up to donate more than $1,500 and CEO, Haj Carr, is doubling all contributions. This year, the John T. Gorman Foundation is making a significant impact by helping donors double their dollars with a matching grant.

Between all contributions and matches TLP raised nearly $6,000 for United Way of Greater Portland!

Rodney Mondor, Coordinator for Student Success at the University of Southern Maine and motivational speaker, also contributed to the discussion. “This is about bringing business leaders together to donate and to volunteer.”

“The most valuable asset you have to offer is your time, and there’s no price tag on that.” —Rodney Mondor
